More Opening

Here are a few more photos from my opening. Thanks to all who came out and made it a great night.

Spring show at Petley Jones

Just got started on hammering out some new ideas for the show at Petley Jones today. Always the funnest part of the process. After doing prairie/Alberta landscapes for the last few years, it’s gonna be nice to do some west coast stuff again. The plan is to keep regular posts coming with lots of pictures of work in progress (from start to finish is the idea, but we’ll see about that), running commentary about concepts, direction, goals, victories, failures – the usual bumpy road that leads to a finished painting.

I’m starting to get excited about the idea of revisiting some familiar places in the lower mainland to see how much I’ve changed (and hopefully grown) as an artist in the last 5 – 10 years. The only thing I’m a little freaked about is time. I’ve never had two shows, back to back, within a year or so. Could be awesome – could be lame, I guess we’ll find out.

Yesterday I was organizing and taking stock of my studio and ran across a couple of pieces I wasn’t to fond of. Instead of trying to rework something that probably sucks, I decided to just paint over them and start from scratch. I taped it and uploaded a slightly edited version on You Tube – just a bit of fun. Check it out: Kinda funny.

Upcoming show

Just a heads up to all who might be interested. I’ve got a show upcoming in early November (exact date to be determined) at Diana Paul Galleries in Calgary. Also, we’ve just agreed to a show in Vancouver at Petley Jones Gallery in the spring of next year. This will be my first show in Vancouver since 2009.
